Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote! "And all the loveliest things there be, come simply, so, it seems to me." And so it was with the reception at the Heritage Center, honoring Dr. Peter Pairolero, and his wife this summer. People came simply to thank him for all the kindnesses he had done for so many through the years, and in friendship. And it was the loveliest thing to be in the midst of the affection and warmth being expressed. In the June newsletter, we invited you to the reception, and we were overwhelmed by the response. We love our beautiful building, but then we were wishing it was larger to accommodate all of you that came. And our beautiful building just keeps getting more polished. This summer, John Stempihar, and his crew installed metal soffits on the side of the building, and trimmed the east gable end. Our "thank you" doesn't seem adequate enough. Now we are hoping for a member with a green thumb to have an irresistible urge to landscape the sward on the south side of the Center. We continue to receive interesting contributions to our exhibits. Our latest treasure is a handmade quilt, over a hundred years old, donated by Dr. And Mrs. Brace. These artifacts take us back to the early beginning of our beloved area. We hope that you can visit us, and enjoy the exhibits, and the events we have planned for the coming year. We thank you for your support. You make our continuing success possible. And in this, the loveliest of seasons, I wish you "Sto Lat". May you have a hundred happy years". Catherine McLean, Vice President How did our High School get named? The new school was dedicated on June 17, 1907. And was later named A.D. Johnston High School. After Albert David Johnston who was a board member from 1900 until his death in 1923. What was the cost to build the new school? The Michigan House of Representatives passed Bill # 450, which permitted Bessemer to bond itself for $45,000.00 needed for this building.
